Johannes Radenos, anthypatos patrikios, imperial protospatharios and droungarios of the imperial navy, 10th century. Seal (Lead, 32 mm, 18.38 g, 12 h). +KЄ [ROH]ΘЄI TⲰ CⲰ ΔOVΛ, ('Lord, help your servant') Richly decorated patriarchal cross on steps, with floral ornaments springing from base. Rev. IⲰ AN/ΘVΠ ΠATP’ / R’A’CΠAΘ’ S / ΔPOVΓΓAP, T૪ / R’ ΠΛOHM, T/…ΔHN’ in six lines. Laurent, Corpus II, 966 (proposed reading Theodoros), cited in BBÖ II, p. 44, note 116. Cf. two unpublished parallel seals with a different spacing of the legend in Dumbarton Oaks (BZS.1955.1.3285 and 3286). An impressive seal of a Byzantine admiral.
